Shop The City: The RealReal

Shop The City: The RealReal

You are probably familiar with the go-to online luxury consignment site The RealReal. Due to popular demand The RealReal opened their first New York City retail store in SoHo at 80 Wooster Street. And let me tell you, it doesn’t disappoint. During my first visit to The RealReal I was impressed with the well-designed layout of the store and how it was organized. You will find sections like ‘spring layering’ and such. The RealReal has a great array of high-end of clothing and accessories for women, men and children for a fraction of the retail price. The retail location provides luxury repair… Continue Reading »

Shop The City: Nordstrom Mens Store

Shop The City: Nordstrom Mens Store

Who said retail is dying? Not in New York City! A perfect example is the opening of Nordstrom’s first Mens store in the heart of Manhattan (235 West 57th Street). I paid a visit the other day and was impressed with what I saw. The new Nordstrom Mens flagship store is well-designed and not overwhelming for the shopper. I stopped by on a Saturday when they had a live DJ playing but was not overstimulated by the vibes. I think the store’s easy three-floor layout helped. I was on the hunt for the perfect men’s white button down shirt. A… Continue Reading »

V is for Velvet

V is for Velvet

One fashion moment I am happy to see carry over into the New Year is velvet.  Buh-bye cut out shoulders! Buh-bye designer Crocs! All of the above can stay in 2017, thank you very much. When it comes to trends that stay and trends that go it’s no surprise the trends that stay are the ones with C-L-A-S-S. There is a richness and timeless look to velvet pieces. There is a fresh approach to velvet, especially accessories like the highly coveted Saint Laurent Loulou boot (psst, they are currently 50% off at Net-a-Porter). People are always asking me what trends are… Continue Reading »

The Look: Loafer Mule

The Look: Loafer Mule

Back to life, back to reality. Is it just me or does September always seem to sneak up on us? While I am trying struggling to get back to my regular routine after taking time off in August I like to think of September as the start to the new year. Another chance to get it right, another chance to get it together. It still feels very much like summer outside but I think I speak for most of us that we are ready to switch it up when it comes to our wardrobes. The look I am embracing while… Continue Reading »

Pajama Sunday | Summer Travels

Pajama Sunday | Summer Travels

Let it be Sunday!  I hope you are savoring this last month of summer. There hasn’t been a dull moment for me. As for the “white space” I talked about at the beginning of the season continues to be filled with spontaneous trips and visits with friends. Last week I was in Southampton. Of course you know the first thing on my list is: TO GO SHOPPING. Oh wait, we actually stopped at Duck Walk Vineyard (shown above) first. We had a great time wine tasting and my personal favorite was their 2015 Sauvignon Blanc. After the winery we bee-lined… Continue Reading »

Shop The City: The Dress Floor at Lord & Taylor

Shop The City: The Dress Floor at Lord & Taylor

While the news portrays retail as a dying art there are some retailers who are doing it right. Lord & Taylor has the largest dress buying customer. So what did they do? They renovated and dedicated the entire 5th floor at their flagship store on Fifth Avenue entirely to dresses, which makes it the city’s largest dress floor. Rumor has it there are more than 2,500 dresses. I am not the typical Lord & Taylor customer but paid a visit to the new dress floor and was quite impressed with what I saw. The newly renovated 5th floor is spacious, modern and… Continue Reading »

The Look: Powerful Pinks

The Look: Powerful Pinks

“Think pink! think pink! When you shop for summer clothes. “  -Funny Face I can’t help but think of this jingle from the movie Funny Face when I see all the vibrant pink wardrobe options out there. Pink is here to stay. The powerful pink movement will carry over into next season as well. I recently attended a seminar with Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing. He talked about how we are moving towards a “season-less wardrobes”. Whether it’s global warming, political views, etc etc… people want color all year round. I must say, even my New York clients want to… Continue Reading »

The Truth About Shopping Outlets

The Truth About Shopping Outlets

After speaking with a couple of clients during recent closet edits, it has come to my attention that most people do not realize the truth about shopping outlets.  Here's the thing: only about 20% (give or take) of the merchandise at brand name outlets is from the retailers main collection or stores. What I mean by this is the apparel you are buying at let's say, J.Crew Outlet, is made specifically for J.Crew Outlet. People assume all clothing found at shopping outlets is heavily discounted merchandise moved from main retail stores. Nope! Cheaper price point = cheaper quality of product. In other… Continue Reading »

Shop The City: UK’s The White Company

Shop The City: UK’s The White Company

This past weekend I ventured downtown to see what all the hype was about regarding London’s The White Company.  I am familiar with their catalog and have heard great things about their products from others. It is the British empires first US flagship store. Let’s just say it did not disappoint. Welcome to New York! I would recommend The White Company to those who love neutrals because yes – as you may have guessed – the store is mostly white and neutral tones. Great wardrobe pieces to build upon. I bought myself a lovely pair of black suede sandals. They were… Continue Reading »
