How to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

How to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

Many say that September is the January of Fashion. Today marks the start of another New York Fashion Week season. As the wise Carrie Bradshaw once said, “Every year the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future. This is known as fashion week.”

I find the hype around the start of the fall season exciting, but yet so premature! I started seeing pumpkins and other fall decorations in the stores at the end of August!! Regardless of the messages the ‘Retail Gods’ are sending us, let’s face it, the month of September is still very much summer. On the East Coast we have a good two weeks of summer weather left (to say the least). As I write this post it is a whooping 90 degrees out. However, I know by now you are probably sick of looking at your summer ensembles. Here are my suggestions for sprucing them up and slowly transitioning from summer to fall.

Mix and Match

When I say mix and match I am suggesting pairing a summer pieces, like a denim skirt, with a light-weight long sleeve blouse instead of that tank top you normally would wear with it in the summer. Throw a pair of tights under your dress shorts and rock them with a pair of your favorite fall boots. This look can take you through most of the season.

Throw a Jacket On

No need to put away your sleeveless jumpsuits or dresses yet. Throw a lightweight sweater, blazer or military jacket on top for those chilly mornings and evenings, but easily take it off  during the day in the heat.

And Yes, You Can Still Wear White

Forget the “No White After Labor Day” rule. It is so passé. A nice pair of yellow-toned winter white jeans looks great with neutrals or jewel tones.

Don’t think about whether an outfit is fall-appriopate, instead ask yourself if it is weather-appriorpate (and makes you feel great). There is nothing worse than jumping the gun and wearing a full on fall look when it is still beach weather outside. ICK! Enjoy these last few days of summer without sacrificing your style. The first day of fall will be here before you know it.
